“A poetic presence and a constant search for the right feeling that command admiration, all the more so for his wonderfully singing tone.”
(Alain Lompech, Bachtrack)
Born in 2005 in Albi, William Winterstin discovered the piano in early childhood and quickly developed a close, singular relationship with the instrument. He began his musical studies at the Conservatoire d’Albi with Camille Galinier before continuing at the Conservatoire de Toulouse in the class of Olivier Chauzu, graduating in 2022 with a unanimous first prize in piano and the congratulations of the jury.
That same year, at the age of sixteen, he was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP, the Paris Conservatoire) in the class of Denis Pascal and Varduhi Yeritsyan. There he earned his bachelor’s degree in piano with highest honors, awarded unanimously, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree. Along the way he has also received guidance from such notable figures as Alexandre Kantorow, Bruno Rigutto, François-Frédéric Guy, Pierre-Yves Hodique, Rena Shereshevskaya, and Bertrand Chamayou.
A member of the fifth class of laureates of the Fondation Gautier Capuçon, William performs regularly in concert and has been invited to a number of prestigious festivals, among them the Festival International de Piano de La Roque-d’Anthéron, the Lisztomanias Festival in Châteauroux, Les Pianissimes, Les Étoiles du Classique, the Chopin Festival in Paris, the Société Marseillaise des Amis de Chopin, the Piano-Pic Festival in the Pyrenees, the Tons Voisins Festival in Albi, and the Journées Ravel in Montfort-l’Amaury.
Alongside his work as a soloist, he is passionately committed to chamber music. He is a member of the Leiermann Trio, which he formed with violinist Nicolas Debart and cellist Ylia Duchemin, both also students at the Paris Conservatoire. The ensemble is currently pursuing a master’s degree in chamber music there in the classes of Louis Rodde and François Salque, after earning its bachelor’s degree in 2025 in the class of Claire Désert and Michaël Hentz.
The Trio has had the opportunity to deepen its work with major figures of chamber music, including Patrick Jüdt, Johannes Meissl, Kathryn Stott, Pierre Colombet, Yovan Markovitch, and Luc-Marie Aguera. It has performed at the Salle Cortot in Paris, at the Levinsalen in Oslo, at the auditorium in Flaine in the French Alps, and at the Festival International de La Roque-d’Anthéron in the summer of 2025, where the ensemble was one of the groups in residence.
William also performs regularly in duo with violinist Nicolas Debart. In the summer of 2026, the two musicians appeared at the Festival International de La Roque-d’Anthéron among the ensembles in residence, where they also received advice from the Trio Wanderer, Claire Désert, Olivier Charlier, Lise Berthaud, and Emmanuel Strosser
