Jan Sekaci started playing the cello at the age 10 in his hometown Oradea at the High School of Arts. Between 2015 and 2020, he studied with Octavian Lup at the National College of Arts “Dinu Lipatti”.
He took part in the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle de Gautier Capuçon for 3 years in a row and since 2020 is studying at Barenboim-Said Academy with Frans Helmerson.
He participated in many masterclasses held by: Frans Helmerson, Marin Cazacu, Denis Severin, Valentin Radutiu, Romain Garioud, Raphael Pidoux, Reinhard Latzko, Antonio Meneses, Miklós Perényi, Jens Peter Maintz, Andras Schiff, Daniel Barenboim.
In 2018 and 2024, Jan was selected as an active participant at the Kronberg Academy Masterclasses, studying with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Philippe Muller.
In 2024 Jan participated in the Verbier Festival as a student of the Academy’s Soloist Program. Since his studies at BarenboimSaid Akademy, he performs frequently with the Boulez Ensemble. He has won many prizes at national and international competitions: 1st prize at Klaipeda International Competition, Lithuania, 1st prize at ProArt Competition in Khmelnitsky, Ukraine, and 1st prize at “Johannes Brahms competition”, Austria.
As a special prize from Brahms Competition, he had his debut as a soloist in Smetana Hall in Prague, playing Dvořák’s Cello concerto together with the Martinu Philharmonic.
Recently, as the winner of the National “New Hope” Competition, for the next season he will receive 13 invitations to play as a soloist with different Philharmonics from Romania.
