Born in 2000, Élise Bertrand began playing the piano at the age of 5, the violin at the age of 8, and composition three years later. A student at the Toulon CRR, she entered the Paris CRR at the age of 14, where she studied violin with Suzanne Gessner and composition with Nicolas Bacri. She obtained a master’s degree in violin and another in sonata chamber music with Gaspard Thomas at the CNSMDP, while continuing her studies in the advanced writing classes at the same institution.
In 2022, she became artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Augustin Dumay’s class. Since 2023, Élise has been supported by the Safran and L’Or du Rhin foundations, and plays a violin by Joseph Gagliano, Naples 1796. Currently in her 3rd year of violin studies at the CNSMDP, she will perform as a soloist with the Conservatoire Laureates Orchestra (OLC) at the Cité de la Musique in Szymanowski’s Second Concerto in 2025.
Nominated in the “Revelation instrumental soloist” category at the 2024 ‘Victoires de la musique’, Élise has won numerous violin, chamber music and composition competitions. As a soloist, her repertoire ranges from concertos by Vivaldi and Szymanowski to those by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Kossenko and her own works, which she has performed alongside the Appassionato ensemble, the orchestras of Montpellier, Casco Phil, La Mahlerian camerata, the Orchestre philharmonique de Provence, the Colonne, Etesias and Azur orchestras, the ensemble Les Déconcertants and the OLC. Published by Billaudot and Klarthe, his works have been commissioned by ensembles, eminent instrumentalists, competitions and institutions, and have been broadcast on France musique, Radio classique and Arte concert.
