A violist of remarkable sensitivity, Gatien possesses a natural ability to connect emotionally with his audience. Passionate about solo and chamber music repertoires, he has enriched his experience by studying with Tabea Zimmermann, Lawrence Power, Nobuko Imai, and Antoine Tamestit, and participating in academies such as Villecroze, Chigiana, and Stauffer.
A guest at festivals such as Un Été en France, the Colmar International Festival, the Pablo Casals Festival, Incontri in terra di Siena, and the Easter Festival, he has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Gautier Capuçon, Renaud Capuçon, Clemens Hagen, and Daishin Kashimoto, and has performed under the baton of Péter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, and Pierre Bleuse in venues such as Geneva’s Victoria Hall, the Rosey Concert Hall in Rolle, and the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa in Codalet (Prades). As a chamber musician, Gatien draws inspiration from Miguel da Silva, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Valentin Erben, and Bruno Giuranna.
Gatien began playing the viola at the age of seven and joined Miguel da Silva’s class at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (HEM) at the age of seventeen. He then joined the Menuhin Academy in Rolle, continuing his training at both institutions, performing with the Menuhin soloists and studying with Gérard Caussé and Ivan Vukcevic. In 2024, he obtained a Master’s degree in Solo Performance at the HEM, crowned with the Albert Lullin Special Prize.
Gatien has received support from the Hirschmann and Rahn Kulturfonds (Switzerland) foundations. He completed his training with a diploma in performing arts at the CNSMDP with Françoise Gnéri and Jean Sulem. In 2025, Gatien was invited to the prestigious Verbier Academy Soloist, joined the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo as artist in residence, and was awarded prizes by the Fondation Gautier Capuçon and the Fondation Safran.
