Italian cellist Francesco Tamburini is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg under Jean-Guihen Queyras and at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona with Antonio Meneses.
He graduated from the Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2023, after studying with Giovanni Gnocchi, and from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan in 2019. His career has been enriched by the advice of renowned musicians such as S. Isserlis and J. Steckel. Francesco plays a Giovanni Battista Grancino from 1700. In July 2023, the duo with Canadian violinist Yan Li was awarded the Special Prize of the Jury at the Prix Ravel International Competition (Maurice Ravel Foundation) of the Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau.
Selected for international festivals such as IMS Prussia Cove and Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, Francesco is co-founder of the Vivacissimo Festival, an international chamber music residency. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Viktoria Mullova and Salvatore Accardo and has performed in prestigious venues such as Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and Berlin’s Konzerthaus.
In 2023, he is launching the Once upon a time recording project with pianist Paolo Tirro, including Janáček’s Pohadk. He plans to record the complete works for cello and piano by F. Mendelssohn for OnClassical Records.
Active in contemporary music, he has worked with composers such as H. Lachenmann and taken part in seminars with the Ensemble intercontemporain. His orchestral experience began in 2010 with the Piccoli Pomeriggi Musicali at the Teatro Dal Verme. He collaborates with conductors such as C. Eschenbach and T. Koopman.
