Born in Bourges in 2001, Gabriel Durliat won the Concours Général des Lycées (Music Education) at the age of 16. That same year, he entered the Paris Conservatoire, where he studied with Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Thierry Escaich, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and Guillaume Connesson.
He won the piano, harmony and piano accompaniment prizes — all three unanimously with congratulations from the jury, the first nominee — as well as the counterpoint and fugue prizes. Admitted in September 2022 to the 3rd cycle (performer’s diploma), while continuing his studies with Cédric Tiberghien at the Académie Jaroussky, Gabriel Durliat was one of six musicians selected in June 2022 to study at the Malko international academy for young conductors in Copenhagen, organised by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Here he benefited from the advice of leading conductors such as Fabio Luisi and Herbert Blomstedt.
In October 2023, he was assistant conductor of the Ensemble intercontemporain for a production of Gérard Grisey’s Espaces acoustiques at the Philharmonie de Paris. After becoming the first Frenchman to win the international Piano campus competition in February 2022, in May 2023 he won 2nd prize in the Hans von Bülow piano conducting competition.
Gabriel Durliat performs regularly with orchestras, in recital and in chamber music, and has been invited to such prestigious events as the Roque-d’Anthéron international piano festival, the Auvers-sur-Oise festival, the Deauville festival, and the Ravel Days at Montfort-l’Amaury. His first solo CD, combining Bach and Faure, will be released in 2024 by Scala music.
