Praised for her exceptional musicality, energy, and passion, and for her vibrant sound, the young Argentine violinist Pilar Policano is the winner of the 2025 Arthur Waser Award and the Grand Prix at the 5th Yankelevitch Violin Competition, and has been a featured soloist with orchestras in Argentina, Europe, and Latin America.
Born in Buenos Aires in 2007, Pilar Policano began playing the violin at the age of six. In 2022 she moved to Vienna with her family to continue her violin studies with Professor Boris Kuschnir at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien and at the Kunstuniversität Graz.
Pilar has already performed in prestigious concert halls including the KKL Lucerne, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, Die Glocke Bremen, the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Victoria Hall Geneva, the Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari, the Palais Ehrbar Saal Vienna, Minas Gerais Hall, and the CCK in Buenos Aires, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from audiences.
She has also performed as a soloist with several major orchestras, among them the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg, the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein, the Valencia Symphony, the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra, the Colombia Symphony, the Serbian Radio and Television Orchestra, and the Orchester & Chor der Universität Bremen, and in Argentina with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, the Argentine National Symphony, and most Argentine orchestras.
In April 2023, Pilar was invited to perform for Pope Francis during his visit to Hungary.
Highly acclaimed in her home country, she received the Music Critics Association award as “Best Argentine Soloist of 2025,” as well as a special recognition from the National Ministry of Culture.
Pilar has taken part in international festivals and academies such as the Vaduz Music Festival, the Engadin Festival, the Perlman Music Program, the Osawa Academy, Morningside Music Bridge in Boston, the Liechtenstein Music Academy, the International Festival “Moscow Meets Friends,” and Festival 7 Lagos in Argentina.
She currently plays a fine violin by N. Bergonzi (Cremona, c. 1780-85) with a bow by Dominique Peccatte (Mirecourt, c. 1850), on loan from the Ryuji Ueno Foundation, Inc. and Rare Violins In Consortium, Artist and Benefactor Collaborative. Since 2026 she is a Gewa Strings artist.
